The KineSpring^® System

The range of appropriate treatment options for your knee OA will depend on your symptoms, activity level, and other specific medical conditions. The goals of OA treatment include minimizing pain, restoring normal activity levels, and slowing disease progression. Drugs and certain cartilage repair procedures may temporarily relieve your knee pain, but these treatments often do not treat the underlying problems that led to your OA. On the other hand, the most invasive procedures will permanently alter your joint's natural anatomy and may limit your future treatment options.

The KineSpring System is intended to treat pain and loss of function caused by your knee OA. Importantly, the implanted device is intended to allow a full range of knee motion and maintain your joint's natural anatomy and kinematics. By preserving your natural joint tissue, the KineSpring System leaves your future treatment options uncompromised.

Braces & Orthotics

Knee braces and shoe orthotics (inserts) may provide some relief for knee OA.^1,2 However, braces and orthotics may disrupt your normal lifestyle. To achieve effective pain relief, braces and orthotics must be positioned correctly and worn for many hours of the day.

As a device implanted by trained surgeons, the KineSpring^® System is designed to allow you to reclaim, not disrupt, your normal lifestyle.

Pain Medications & Injections

Pain medication and injections into your knee may provide temporary pain relief. Unfortunately, pain medications often do not treat the problems that caused your knee OA. Even worse, when knee pain is temporarily relieved, many patients actually alter their walking motion and increase the stress placed on their damaged knee. This altered walking motion may accelerate the degradation of the knee joint.¹

The KineSpring^® System, by comparison, is intended to treat pain and loss of function caused by your knee OA. It is designed to maintain your normal range of motion and natural anatomy.

Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgery in which a camera and surgical instruments are inserted through small incisions into your knee joint. Several types of arthroscopic procedures can be performed, but most are unlikely to treat the problems that originally caused your knee OA.

The KineSpring^® System, in contrast, is designed to cushion your joint and absorb excess weight that may be contributing to your knee pain.

High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO)

HTO is an invasive surgery that is designed to change the angle of your lower leg compared to your knee joint. By changing that angle of your lower leg, HTO may change the way your knee supports weight. HTO is a challenging surgery that may prevent you from bearing weight on your treated leg for six weeks.¹

Alternatively, the KineSpring® System maintains your natural anatomy and is designed to allow a quick recovery to your normal lifestyle. Patients recently treated with the KineSpring System typically left the hospital after one day and resumed full weight bearing on the knee less than a week after the procedure.²

Unicompartmental Knee Replacement (UKR)

During UKR, a surgeon removes damaged cartilage and bone from one area in your knee joint and replaces it with an artificial implant. UKR can be an effective treatment for knee OA in some patients, but it is an joint modifying procedure that may restrict future treatment options. UKR may not be appropriate for certain active or obese patients.^1,2

The KineSpring^® System is completely joint sparing and reversible. No bone, ligament, or cartilage is removed from your knee, and future treatment options are preserved. To date, the KineSpring Knee Implant System has been successfully implanted in patients with a range of disease severity, activity levels, and ages.³

Total Knee Replacement (TKR)

TKR is a more extensive version of a UKR, but instead of replacing only one area of your knee joint, a TKR surgery replaces all of your knee joint surfaces with artificial implants. TKR can be an effective treatment for knee OA in some patients, but the surgery is invasive and may restrict future treatment options.¹ The possibility of difficult revision procedures often eliminates younger, active OA sufferers as candidates for the procedure.²
